Not All Top Coats Are Created Equal: A Real-World Guide to CNS Finishes

Let’s talk top coats. If you’re using CNS gels, you already care about clean ingredients and high performance but the final step can make or break the whole set. That’s why Cordoza Nail Supply offers multiple hema-free top coats with totally different personalities. Whether you’re layering chrome, sealing in chunky glitter, or just giving a clean high-gloss finish, there’s a top coat that’ll have your back.

Here’s the breakdown on each one, what it’s best for, and how to use it to get the most wear out of every set.

OG Hema Free Top Coat

This is the original, and a go-to for a reason. It has a no-cleanse formula and gives a strong, high-gloss finish. It’s slightly porous, which means you can layer it without worrying about peeling. That same porosity also allows it to absorb pigments, especially at the thirty-second cure mark. It’s not totally stain resistant, so skip this one if your client is constantly around hair dye or strong colorants, but for everything else—it’s a solid pick.

Glass Top Coat

This is your high-shine, high-protection option. It’s non-porous and extremely stain resistant, even against hair color and other aggressive dyes. It gives a beautiful glass-like finish and cures without a tacky layer. But it’s not made to be layered, and chrome or pigments won’t grip to it. Use this as your final step and don’t go back in with a second coat or you’ll run into peeling.

Clear Chrome Attract

Designed specifically for art, this one is all about grip. It’s a no-cleanse, porous top coat that absorbs pigment, locks in foil/inks/art, and plays beautifully with glitter. You can also use it as a layering top coat underneath your art to help prevent lifting or peeling. But it’s not meant to be your final coat. Without a sealer on top, it can get dull or pick up dirt due to its porous finish. Always follow it up with the OG or Glass Top to keep it protected.

Rubber Top Coat

This is the thickest of the bunch. It’s made to smooth out chunky glitter, seal in texture, or even fix imperfections that need to be leveled. It gives a super glossy finish and wears extremely well. It’s slightly porous and cures in a full sixty seconds. You can use it alone or finish with a second top coat if you want extra protection or a more stain-resistant finish.

Tips and Tricks to Make Them Work Harder

If you’re applying chrome:

Start with a cured layer of Clear Chrome Attract

Apply your chrome

Cure again for thirty more seconds

Apply another layer of Clear Chrome Attract and full cure

Finish with OG or Glass Top to lock everything in

This method prevents peeling, flaking, or dullness and keeps everything sealed and smooth.

If you’re using glitter spritzers:

Spray them directly into the wet, uncured layer of Clear Chrome Attract

Cure to lock them in place

Apply a second layer of Clear Chrome Attract and cure again

Seal with OG or Glass Top for lasting shine and smoothness

Using the right top coat for the job doesn’t just make your work look better—it helps it wear longer and protects your art. Try mixing and matching depending on the client, the service, or the look you’re going for. Once you find your favorite combos, they’ll become part of your signature finish.
