What Does Value Mean?

VALUE.

  • 1. the regard that something is held to deserve; the importance, worth, or usefulness of something
  • 2. a person's principles or standards of behavior; one's judgment of what is important in life:

I am sitting here racking my brain at the kitchen table wondering why so many nail techs have (along the way) lost their value. I don't mean value in their own personal self but VALUE IN THEIR CRAFT. How did we get to this point? How did nails become something we wanted to do so badly but now we give them away freely (without even knowing it).

I think the problem is somewhat in our current culture but more so than that I believe it's within ourselves.  We have stopped putting value in our business and in our services. We've allowed ourselves to become cheap. We can change that though and we can be better tomorrow than we were today. We can make that change.. RIGHT NOW.

So hear me out because you are probably thinking... I'm not the problem and I didn't open this to get lectured! (promise that's not what this is!!)

Before I go any further I should mention if you don't already know I own a salon and I run a nail supply where I load up my car and deliver to the salons all over Oregon. I see A LOT of nail techs. I see A LOT of nail techs at VARIOUS stages of their career. I rarely see any of them charging WHAT I FEEL THEY ARE WORTH. How can I put MORE VALUE in YOU than YOU put in YOU???!!

I want to share with you something that I think will make a huge impact on your life. It is a PROBLEM when other people can see more VALUE in YOU than YOU can see in YOURSELF. When you are checking out the "other salons in the area" to see what their prices are and then pricing a little lower or a little higher or even the same. You are devaluing THEM and YOU. When you haven't raised your prices in years because you don't want to "upset Sally" or "Susie can't afford that" YOU are devaluing yourself. When you allow no shows or constant reschedules you are devaluing YOURSELF. You get where I am going with this right??

I am here to tell you whether you have been in the industry for 30+ years or you're still in school... YOU NEED TO PUT VALUE IN YOURSELF BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T VALUE YOURSELF NEITHER WILL YOUR CURRENT CLIENTS OR ANY FUTURE CLIENTS. You.... YOU have the key to unlock this door and change the direction of your career. YOU have to put VALUE IN YOUR SERVICES before you can ever expect a consumer to value them.

I am here for YOU! I am here to open your eyes to help you see something you may not see yourself. I believe in you when you may not believe in yourself. I HAVE BEEN YOU. I know what it's like to not value your skills and your services. You have 2 choices. You either level up or you stay where you're at.

So don't be afraid to raise your prices, do the math and figure out what you should be making to break even and then PAY YOURSELF on top of that, don't be afraid to lose clients, don't be afraid to fire clients, don't be afraid to move salons if you're not happy and do be afraid to reach for more because I can GUARANTEE that you are more valuable than you think you are.

Well friends,

YOU. ARE. WORTH. IT.

OH...

and the client that gives you an anxiety attack when you see her on your books.. let her go!

XOXO
